NEGSS Scholarship Recipients: Tawa & Seun
We first met NEGSS International Alumnae Association’s scholarship recipients,Tawa Giwa and Oluwaseun Omotayo in the summer of 2017 when they represented Nigeria at the First Global Robotic Olympiad competition in Washington, DC from July 16 through July 18, 2017.
They were the only two girls representing Nigeria amongst a team of seven which included five boys.
The event was organized by For Inspiration And Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) based in Abuja and was the team’s main sponsor to the event..
Tawa Giwa, who spoke on behalf of the team, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that adequate preparation, determination to succeed and huge support from Nigerians gave them success.
Tawa Giwa added that the team received encouragement from the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington.
The student of New Era Girls’ Secondary School, Surulere, said that Symington’s advice and encouragement inspired the team greatly.
Currently both Tawa Giwa and Oluwaseun Omotayo are students of North Idaho College & Troy University respectively.
Since 2014, the students of New Era Girls Secondary School (JSS & SSS) have benefited from scholarship awards from the NEGSS International Alumnae Association to the tune of one million Naira.
